Microbial Ingress Test

Jun. 26, 2026

Test Principle

The microbial ingress test is a probabilistic, destructive container closure integrity test method. Containers filled with a sterile growthsupport medium are immersed in an aqueous suspension of highconcentration microorganisms, which represents the most stringent bacterial challenge due to its small size. After exposure, containers are removed, rinsed, incubated, and examined for microbial growth. Growth indicates that a leak pathway large enough to permit microbial ingress exists.
